New year! New Army!

Yup it's that time of year again.... time to switch things up by diving into a new faction. This years army I'm going to focus on hordes and trollbloods in pertecular. I know in a previous post I said I was going to start play CoC, but I had a bit of a change of heart as much as I like the idea of a steampunk mechanicus type army. I decided to keep playing and collecting Menoth till the end of 2013 trying to curb the old faction ADD.

I did a poor job of keeping up with my blog last time and going to try and improve on that this year by post some battle reports maybe some hobby progress stuff. Along with my New Years army I made a few hobby related New Years resolutions they were 1. Curb my faction add by playing only trollbloods for 2014, 2. Play 6-10 games a month, 3. Have my trollbloods painted by 2015. I am really looking forward to this year and am very excited to finally start playing trolls, going to be a good year.

Impossible Dream

I have been itching to do a terrain project now for a while and I think I have come up with the perfect idea. I have been mulling it over for a bit and I think I'm going to try and build a fold able 4x4 city table for warmachine and hordes games. I want the buildings that will be on the city table to be magnetized, so I swap them out for destroyed versions but also so don't feel restricted on how many building their will be on the table.

I used the WM/H vassal program to make a design of what I would want the my board to look like after doing a rough sketch of the table layout. I really like the canal and railroad bridge. The canal is going to be shallow water so things with pathfinder will be fine and gives speedy units another option to get around sneakily. The rail line and bridge are going to be on a raised platform and you will be able to overlook allot of the board great place for ranged stuff but not to overpowering. All the main streets and builds will be wide enough for a gargossal or battle engine to move no problem and the side streets between the buildings with wide enough for three 30mm bases or one 40mm bases to fit. The buildings will be destroyable but I have to play around with the sizes and rules in the book first.   I really like this lay out doesn't feel too closed in but makes each player have to make serious tactical decisions.

This is going to be awesome
I am hoping to get this started soon have to take care of a few things with my car first. Hopefully I won't be bored this winter.

So wanted to go to adepticon...

Convergence of Cyriss

I just wanted to do a blog post about Privateer press's newest faction and how in a previous post I stated I would started playing/collecting a new army being Protectorate of Menoth. After seeing the livestream at templecon and have been following spoilers on the PP forums.  I have changed my mind about collecting menoth and have decided to just head long into collecting and playing CoC.

Few reasons for this first of all being that I was planning on doing a converted Adeptus Mechanicus army using the necron rules. But after hearing about GW's newest trade policies in the regards of getting rid of bits sales and making it harder for retailers to stock certain items via direct sales and general GW business shadiness. I have decided to save myself some money this summer instead of doing a converted army and just use the money I would save for other projects I was interested in like building a foldable terrain board for Warmachine and Hordes.
Aurora's 3d concept art calling it now
Axis, The Harmonic enforcer
I really like the look of the models so far and the lore and mechanics of the faction look solid. So far my two favorite Warcasters are Aurora, Numen of Aerogenisis and Axis. Axis had some rules previewed in yesterdays insider on PP main site, wow is he looking awesome hope he has some defensive spell like iron flesh or defenders wards tho but field marshal: counter charge, while giving all his jacks mat7 is fricken awesome. I hope Aurora is as good if not better then axis cause he is looking good. The warjacks look great they look different enough but don't look completely alien to the setting like Retribution ones do. I really like the look of the units too but my favorites so far Clockwork angels and Reciprocators.Interesting to see what solos if any will be in the faction I heard their was talk about a unit UA that could be attached to different units sounds cool.

But yea so exicted about this new faction I can't wait til june/july to get my hands on this stuff and if owning nercons has taught me anything this is going to be a easy paint scheme.

Blindwater army update

I finished painting a few models for my blindwater force. Still have a ways to go my goal is to have a fully painted 35 point army to take to some steamroller events in the future. We had a event yesterday at one of the LGS but unfortunately, one of my tires went on my car and didn't wanna risk the 60ish mile round trip on a worn out spare.

My 35 point blindwater list:
Blood barnabas  +6
- Blackhide wrastler  9
-Bull snapper  3
-Ironback spitter  8
Max Gatorman posse 9
Gatorman witchdoctor 3
Wrong eye + Snapjaw 9

Nothing special pretty standard list really only thing I would prolly change to make it a bit more competetive. Would be to maybe drop wrong eye & snapjaw and maybe add a second unit of posse but I'm more of a collector by choice. Painted models I have for this list so far:

The boss himself

The wrastler

Bull snapper

Croak hunter

Group shot

I know that the croak hunter wasn't in the 35 point list but the croak hunter and barnabas for the first blindwater models I purchased. I wanted to get him painted he isn't based but I have not decided how I want to base him yet. Next models that are primed and ready for painting are going to be gatorman posse and witchdoctor. I still have to assemble the Ironback spitter and Wrong eye & snapjaw.

Real life sucks

I haven't been able to get much wargaming stuff done in the last 3 months, with the crazy holiday season, while still on the job hunt and have been playing firefall(which is awesome). And with the end of the holidays begininng of the new year I sometimes get the new year army itch. Where I start up a new army with a theme that most likely get bored with and shelved. This year is going to have a twist tho I will start a new army but only like I finish a army I started previously.

Love the smell of burnt heretic in the morning  j/k =p

With breaking with tradition completely this new army will not be a 40k army but instead it is Protectorate of Menoth. This isn't my first time playing warmachine I started back when MK2 came out and alot of players from a LGS got fed up with GW and made an exodus to PP.  I like both games for different reasons I don't consider my self a fanboy of either and try to play both systems regularly.

What's not to love about a ancient homocidal Gatorman?

Now I mentioned before in order to start this army I need to finish a army I started previously I needed to finish collecting/painting a army I started before. I choose to finish my Blindwater Congregation I started when Hordes MK2 came out. I have model of the models except the bog trogs, swamp horror and new stuff coming in Gargantuans but there on my list just need to paint them up what I have atm. I am going to try and set up a game against my buddy jim for this week for some 40k or warmachine/hordes action.

Tau Rematch with a twist

First off quick recap of my rematch against tau on 12-1-12. I was going to do a battle report for the match but was suprised by my friend john's return to the hobby instead of doing are usually 1200 match. We agreed on doing a 1700 point match with me and john playing space wolves versus Jim and his tau. Jim just added 500 points to list original 1200 point list and I used my drop pod list below with John's 500 point force added on.

Drop pod

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a copy of Jim or John's list due to multiple interuptions(me and john having to step out and pick someone up) the game took longer then expected. The drop pod list I used worked great against Jim, the mission we played was Big guns never tire and deployment was Vanguard strike. I rolled tenacity on the personal warlord trait and I think Jim rolled Master of ambush for his. We had 4 objectives represented by 40mm bases with pewter ammo cases/ruck sacks glued on, 2 in each of our deployment zone. Jim put his in the open ground while john stuck one of ours inbetween a forest and building near the trench and the other inbetween 2 buildings.

I was nervous at first because the only stuff deployed on our side of the board was john's 500 point army and didn't want them to get shot off the board first turn by Jim's gunline. I won the roll for first turn and opted to go second. John hid his stuff behind the trench. Here are some pictures of the table set up and 1st turn.

*In the photos you will notice 2 patherfinder units with rail rifles deployed without a devil fish but that is because Jim hasn't found them let from his recent move and the rhinos laying on there sides are proxied as drop pods.

Table set up and Tau turn 1

Space wolves Turn 1
John manages to survive the first round of shooting only losing 4 sniper scouts and 5 man grey hunter sqaud(damn markerlights).  My first 3 drop pods containing 2 melta grey hunter squads my wolf lord and venerable dreadnaught Dropped next to Jim's objective near the 3 floor ruined building unloading rapid fire bolter, melta and plasma cannon shots in the 3 fire warrior squads closest to the objective. My last 2 pods came in on turn 2, first pod dropped next to the objective near the kroot in the forest and last pod dropped behind the building next to the objective inbetween the two buildings. I was a fun game tho space wolves managed to win 2-0 objectives Jim put up a hard fight killing 3 drop pods, grey hunter squad with the wolf lord and venerable dreadnought.

Even with power armour, feel no pain via tenacity was no match for buckets of dice worth of shots Jim was pouring in the unit. The wolf lord died to impact hits from Commander/bodygaurd and steath suit team while in assualt with a unit of fire warriors. John's 5 man grey hunter squad with WGBL held the objective closest to our board edge while the 2 plasma equiped grey hunter squads pushed forward to the objective between the building forcing the pathfinders out of our deployment zone. Surviving 5 man melta grey hunter squad and johns wolf scouts killed off the kroot hiding in the ruins near Jim's board edge and assualted the unit of broadsides on Jim's objective contesting it.
